We absolutely loved the Hmong food at Vinai. But beyond the food is their really cool family story. The restaurant is named after the refugee camp in Thailand where the chef was born. In their own words "Vinai, the restaurant, serves as a love letter from Yia to his parents. It serves as an homage to Hmong culture and history. And it serves as a place of restoration, a place where we invite you to celebrate, honor, and illuminate stories of your own through the universal language of food. "
The food is unique and definitely has a Southeast Asian feel. We ate things like Roasted Eggplant with garlic, chili and purple sticky rice, Shrimp and Cucumber Ceviche, Fried Cauliflower with chili lime, and Crabby Fried Rice with Pork Belly. There is a lot of variety and this is definitely best when you've got 4-6 people sharing at the table!
The plates are shared and the staff is more than happy to guide your journey. They have a great bar with stylish drinks and some interesting beers as well (we had the "Lucky Buddah" Lager). Make a rezy because this place had been discovered as one of the best new restaurants in the country.
