The team was in Florida for the start up of a DC8 in Lake Worth at The Hemp Hermit. We were not far from Palm Beach, the notorious enclave of the well heeled and terminally tan. So we headed up in our rented Nissan Elantra to 'The Island' to get some dinner at this much touted spot. We rolled in and the valet swept our vehicle into a hiding spot so not to detract from the Bentleys and Ferraris parked in front.
We've been there a few times and on this occasion we were seated in the bar (it is a bit quieter - but the place is loud) at a comfortable table. They have some great signature cocktails like Buccan T, but also have some really nice wines by the glass and a solid wine list. This is a small plate place - and the servings are enough to share with two or three people. The servers will guide you on portion size. We started with Island Creek oysters and then enjoyed tuna tartare and a few other small plates. The Hamachi was delicious and the beef tartare is pretty cool. We shared a Lobster Pasta and some Thai Roast Chicken. For dessert we wolfed down the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies with a sprinkle of coarse salt and some ice cream.
This is a worthwhile stop in Palm Beach. Try to book ahead...it can be tough to get a table in season.
